Dr. Butz PetersTeam

Biography

Dr. Butz Peters was born in Hannover in 1958. He grew up there, in Freiburg/Breisgau and Tossens/North Sea.

After a traineeship (training as a radio and television journalist) at Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) in 1984/85, he worked for several editorial offices in public broadcasting, mainly on the topics of “internal security” and contemporary history. Among other things, he was head of the “Legal Policy” department in the NDR’s main political department from 1987 to 1992 and of the “Media Policy” department from 1990 to 1992. He was a reporter at Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR 1, SDR 3) and at NDR 2 and NDR 4. In 1993 and 1994, he was managing director and editor-in-chief of the private radio station Antenne Sachsen in Dresden. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as a television author for the ARD magazine “Brisant”. From 1997 to 2001, he moderated the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY… Ungelöst” as successor to Eduard Zimmermann.

In 1988, he received the Journalism Prize of the Standing Conference of the Ministers and Senators of the Interior for the best radio program on the topic of “Preventive Crime Fighting.” In 1991, he was awarded the Nick Knatterton Honorary Cap by the Association of German Criminal Investigators for special commitment to the field of crime prevention and fighting crime.

After studying law – with a minor in journalism – at the universities of Hannover, Göttingen, Lausanne and Vienna, he worked as a lawyer and partner in the media law firms Prinz Neidhardt Engelschall in Hamburg (1996 to 2001) and Brehm & von Moers in Berlin (2001 to 2013). There he dealt primarily with the media and labor law of media professionals. From 2013 to 2018, he was a partner at the law firm Heinemann & Peters in Dresden and then a partner at the law firm Tiefenbacher in Dresden until 2024. Since 2024, he has been Of Counsel at the law firm DANCKERT & PARTNER.

As a lawyer, he specializes in the law of parliamentary investigation committees.
