Legal advice on criminal matters & Internal Investigations

Advice on criminal law

We assist individuals and companies not only in crisis situations, but also try to prevent such situations from arising in the first place.

For example, we advise our clients on issues related to money laundering or sanctions regulations in order to identify and, if possible, avoid criminal risks. We support companies in preparing and implementing compliance measures to prevent employees from violating the law and to avoid possible liability for those in positions of responsibility within the company. To this end, we develop and review control mechanisms or provide training for employees.

We also represent both individuals and companies as victims in criminal proceedings. We provide support in investigating and examining criminally relevant behavior and report this to the police on behalf of our clients.

We also assist our clients as witness counsel. To this end, we not only advise in the run-up to testimony, but also accompany witnesses to interrogations by authorities and in court, in order to ensure the protection of witnesses and effectively enforce their rights.

Internal investigations

Internal investigations are often indicated even before the public prosecutor is already on the doorstep. They are often an effective means of corporate defense. By clarifying the facts on behalf of the company, we help to avoid or at least limit the harmful effects of state investigations – e.g. high-profile searches, seizure of documents and data, lengthy proceedings, etc. Ideally, the results of an internal investigation will be accepted by the authorities without any action on their part.

We clarify unclear risk situations where the company’s own internal audit is unable or not authorized to do so.

If carried out in good time, internal investigations can prevent a crisis by clarifying and dealing with delicate issues internally. The results of such internal investigations can often provide valuable lessons for the future. If, despite everything, a public investigation is initiated, the company’s own efforts to clarify the situation often have the effect of reducing or even avoiding liability for the company.
